As I said to Money Matters at Thomson Reuters TV a few weeks ago - when you have a whole bundle of disadvantages and advantages attached to all the alternatives to London - a bewildering array of them in fact, you might as well stay with the devil you know.
I was wrong-footed in one way though - as were many : HSBC had let us think that this decision was not due for at least another nine months. They must have decided to stick more closely to their original deadline.
Plus : maybe they think the British Prime Minister David Cameron has got all the concessions from Europe, on things like financial regulation, as he's going to get.
